September brough us our annual thematic competition for the Roy Gilbert Cup. This year there were 8 members producing 14 entries: Robert Prentice with Naval Technical Drawings. Robert Hurst with two entries about the Antarctica. Graham Mytton on the artist and designer of Zambia stamps, Gabriel Ellison. Simon Burke with 4 entries, Spiders Webb on stamps/covers, the HM Naval Pigeon Service, the first pictorial Uganda stamp and Pencils and Pens on cover. Peter White with Interrupted or Crash Mail from Imperial Airways. Richard Park with a selection of Formula One covers. Simon McArthur with three entries about the Third Reich. Malcolm Cole with Never Tempt Providence about a soldier in the trenches in WWI. A variety of material was shown from the members from letters to drawings to covers and stamps. The winner will be announced at our Christmas meeting. This meeting was sadly the last for long standing member and friend of the club, Julie Webb, who is moving away to be closer to her family. We would all like to express our gratitude to Julie for her help over the years and wish her all the best for the future – hopefully we may see her at the club again one day if she is in the area!
