In July we were treated to another wonderful afternoon from Grace Davies on the subject of ‘Peace.’ Grace first visited us in 2018 with a PowerPoint presentation, but today she showed us a varied version from her vast collection, which is being added to it all the time. Grace displayed a broad range of material from stamps, covers, original artwork, postal stationery and ephemera. Starting with the end of the Boer War, Grace went on and told us about the various stages of peace through to the peace conferences, sometimes resulting in a treaty; the League of Nations and the birth of the United Nations, its reputation and of course its failures. We were also shown the symbols of peace – the dove and olive branch and the peace rose.
A superb afternoon, thank you Grace.
